Don’t stop with Human Centipede II: let’s ban more films and stop this sick filth NOW

There’s been much gnashing of teeth and no small amount of moral righteousness at the decision by the BBFC earlier this week to ‘ban’ Human Centipede II and pretty much stop any chance of it being shown in British cinemas.

Some would claim that it doesn’t really matter anyway, as those who want to watch it will just be able to illegally download it – and that the added publicity from this dreary controversy will lead to even more people trying to watch it at all costs.

That makes about the same sense as not banning shoplifting, thuggery, neo-Nazi parties, Noel Edmonds, etc, just because it’s going to happen anyway whether we like it or not. Obviously these self-regarding morons haven’t thought about the importance of taking a stand.

Anyone who watched the first Human Centipede – I bravely did so in the name of stopping others from wasting a couple of hours of their lives - should be able to attest to its inherent rubbishness, coming up with a gross-out concept but then failing to deliver where it matters: in delivering a decent movie.

It appears that with the sequel director Tom Six is now intent on delivering the horror film equivalent of the Aristocrats joke, becoming ever the more extreme in his rehashing of the same sordid event. The shame of this is that Six seems from his debut to be a terrible storyteller, so the BBFC are really doing us a favour by releasing us from the burden of whether to opt for that or Spider-Man 2 when opting to rent out something with an creepie-crawlie-related theme to it.

'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil' Announced for Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D Share

Directed by Mike Disa and produced by Kanbar Entertainment, the team that brought you the original 'Hoodwinked!' film, 'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil' is based on the beloved classic children’s fairy tale Red Riding Hood.

The sequel features the voices of an all-star ensemble cast including Hayden Panettiere, Glenn Close, JoanCusack, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, Patrick Warburton, David Alan Grier, Andy Dick, Brad Garrett, Martin Short, Heidi Klum, Wayne Newton, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong.

Here’s what the critics have to say about 'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil': “Hilarious!” (Nell Minow The Chicago Sun-Times) “Innovative! A superb sequel and entertaining treat for the whole family.” (Judith Manigault, Family Media) “A procession of pop-culture send-ups delivered at light speed, interspersed with affirmative messages about exercise, proper diet and – so refreshing in this kind of movie – girl power.” (The New York Times).

Fracturing fairy tales and pop culture with good-natured glee, 'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil' takes viewers on a rollicking rollercoaster ride combining edge-of-the-seat adventure with classic, zany cartoon antics.

The releases will come in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack as well as a Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: The Voices of Hoodwinked Too! featurette; storyboard sequences; production artwork; music videos; and video game applications.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray/DVD is $34.99 and the Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy is $39.99.

You can find the latest specs for 'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil' and 'Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil - 3D' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under August 16.
